A six-month-old baby elephant named Kanmani was found abandoned in the Attapadi forest in October with huge injuries on its body. The forest officers discovered it and the elephant is now under the careful attention of the veterinarian David Abraham and the attendant Shanthi. The elephant was found on October 27. Also, the officers tried hard to reunite the calf with the herd, but it was unsuccessful. After searching for a week, the weak calf gets weaker day by day. The Palakkad DFO Mr. Kurra Srinivas said “The health condition of the calf was deteriorating”.
They also said if the calf was there in the same place, then it would be attacked by other animals. Hence, it is taken to the elephant camp nearby. Then the veterinarian doctor continuously monitored the elephant’s health. Earlier the calf was unable to drink half a liter of milk, but now, it is taking 2.5 to 3 liters of milk. The tusk of the calf is also monitored daily. Now Kanmani is under the care of Shanthi.
