Adam Gilchrist on CSK Legend’s Press Stance: Since MS Dhoni gave up his captaincy for Chennai Super Kings and handed it over to Ruturaj Gaikwad, he has not been interacting with the media or the public.
According to former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist, MS Dhoni rarely ever talks to the media. It is like a rule for him. Gilchrist said it is almost as if Dhoni is seen as something very special or important, like “the holy grail.”
Since MS Dhoni passed on the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings to Ruturaj Gaikwad, he hasn’t been talking to the media or the public. This change was announced just before the IPL 2024 opener between CSK and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Now, Ruturaj handles the mandatory pre and post-match interactions. Additionally, the CSK support staff, led by head coach Stephen Fleming, takes care of the post-match press conferences.
In the four matches that CSK has played, Dhoni hasn’t had any outstanding performances that would make him eligible for the Player of the Match interview with the broadcasters. As a result, he hasn’t been participating in those interviews either.
Gilchrist mentioned that Dhoni has always been like that. Even when he was playing cricket for India, he was a very private person.
“He’s kind of like a treasure because he never gives interviews. He never did, not even when he was playing. It’s always a clear no,” Gilchrist said on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast.
In a match against the Delhi Capitals, Dhoni almost won the Player of the Match award by scoring 37 runs off just 16 balls in a chase of 192 runs. However, despite his efforts, the team couldn’t secure the victory. There was still too much work left to do.
“In another match, no one knew what Dhoni had left in him as he did not bat in the first couple of games. But even in a losing situation, he showed his skills and made an impact,” Gilchrist mentioned.
