Apple and SpaceX Partner for Revolutionary Starlink Satellite Internet Access on iPhones

In a groundbreaking partnership to kick off 2025, Apple and SpaceX have joined forces to bring Starlink satellite access to iPhones through the latest iOS 18.3 update. This game-changing collaboration, which also involves T-Mobile, enables iPhones to connect to Starlink’s satellite network, providing an alternative to Apple’s existing Globalstar-powered satellite communication service.

Secret Starlink Integration in iOS 18.3

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has been secretly working with SpaceX and T-Mobile to add Starlink satellite support to its newest iPhone software. This move, initially under the radar, has now been described by industry experts as a ” game-changer.”

Mario Nawfal, founder of IBC Group, shared on X (formerly Twitter), “Apple just opened iPhone doors to Starlink’s satellite network, giving users an alternative to their Globalstar service for off-grid communication.” The biggest advantage? Unlike existing satellite services that require pointing the phone at the sky, Starlink connectivity works seamlessly from your pocket.

T-Mobile has already started beta testing the feature, sending messages to select iPhone users notifying them that they are in the T-Mobile Starlink beta program. The message states:

“You can now stay connected with texting via satellite from virtually anywhere. To start experiencing coverage beyond, please update to iOS 18.3.”

What Does Starlink on iPhones Mean?

At launch, the Starlink satellite service on iPhones is limited to text messaging, but SpaceX and T-Mobile have confirmed that voice calls and mobile data are planned for the future. Elon Musk himself weighed in, revealing that the current Starlink Direct-to-Phone constellation supports medium-resolution images, music, and audio podcasts, while the next-generation satellites will enable medium-resolution video streaming.

Apple users in the U.S. with iPhone 14 models and newer are the first to receive this Starlink connectivity upgrade, marking the beginning of a new era of satellite-powered mobile communication.

The Future of Space-Based Cellular Networks

The partnership between Apple, SpaceX, and T-Mobile signals a major shift in space-based cellular technology. With plans to expand beyond text messaging and eventually support voice and internet data, Starlink’s satellite network could redefine global mobile coverage, especially in remote and off-grid locations.

As Apple rolls out iOS 18.3, this development could lead to a future in which iPhones stay connected anywhere in the world—on land, sea, or even outer space.
