A newborn child was found trapped in a 15-foot borewell at Laripli in the area of Rengali of Sambalpur on Tuesday. Some passersby heard her cries. At around 3 pm, people heard the baby crying and called the fire service personnel. However, it’s unclear how the baby gets trapped inside as the borewell has been far from human habitation. The residents around the area feel like, the baby has been dumped over there by someone.
Another pit near the bore well has been dug to reach the infant. Nobody around the area comes in front to claim that child. All the members who worked there didn’t care about that and everybody’s attention was fully on how to rescue the child. The residents said that it is a private land. The land is also known as Sriram field which is left abandoned for the past 15 years. Also, the borewell which is dug on the field has not been used.
Everybody started to think that the baby was purposefully thrown into the dug. As rescuers reached closer, the baby started to cry and the rescuers also heard the noise of that baby. A filament bulb was sent inside the dig to make the baby warm until she was rescued. The Odisha Fire Services DG said that the iron rod of the bore well has been cut by the hand cutter instead of the gas cutter to make sure about the baby’s protection. As the baby has been exhausted due to the non-availability of enough oxygen and milk, the rescuers have done their work fast.
The health officials and the Rengali BDO also visited the spot. An oxygen supply has been given to the baby. After the rescuer’s team reached 25ft, they used a electric cutter to cut the pipe. The team used a camera that clearly showed that the baby was thrown in an inverted position. After 6 hours of huge efforts, the baby was rescued and rushed to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research in Burla. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also showed happiness for the safe rescue of the baby.
