In a touching act of support, eleven women from Murshidabad district in West Bengal decided to contribute ₹11,000 towards Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. A video shared by the news agency ANI shows women from Ranagram village in Murshidabad handing over a sum of money to a politician, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, as a contribution towards his campaign. The women, who sourced the funds from various sources including their household budgets, earnings from farming, goat rearing, and even a day’s wage from their spouses, expressed their support for Chowdhury’s Lok Sabha election bid.

Meanwhile, the Congress party has accused the BJP-led central government of using the Income Tax department to hinder their electoral campaign ahead of the general elections. Despite the Congress not receiving any relief from the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) and the Delhi High Court, the IT department assured the Supreme Court on April 1 that it would not take any “coercive” action against the Congress until July.
The federal agency has demanded that the Congress pay ₹3,567 crore in taxes, raising concerns among party members about the alleged targeting by government authorities. This development adds to the political dynamics leading up to the elections, with parties engaging in legal battles and accusations amidst the campaigning phase.
The general elections are set to take place in seven phases, starting on April 19 and ending on June 1. The votes for all 543 constituencies will be counted on June 4.
