SEVENTEEN now leads in K-Pop rankings, taking over from BTS. BTS held the top spot for 67 months, but the latest report in January shows SEVENTEEN at the forefront, replacing the long-reigning kings. BTS, with members Jin, Jimin, Suga, J-Hope, Jungkook, RM, and V, held the top spot for over 5 and a half years. But in January 2024, things changed. SEVENTEEN took the lead in K-Pop rankings, especially because of their rising popularity in album sales.
If you thought BTS came second, you’re mistaken. The K-pop kings are now in third place. Another growing K-pop group, NCT, has taken the second spot on the list.
According to Koreaboo, the January K-pop brand reputation rankings are SEVENTEEN, NCT, BTS, RIIZE, ZEROBASEONE, THE BOYZ, Stray Kids, EXO, SHINee, ASTRO, ATEEZ, Super Junior, TVXQ, BTOB, and BOY NEXT DOOR.
When SEVENTEEN outpaced BTS in album sales This isn’t the first time the Pledis Entertainment boy band has outperformed BTS. Previously, the group achieved a groundbreaking feat by selling over 10 million album copies from January to November 2023. The group’s FML stood out be the biggest all-time hit. The HOT singers surpassed BTS’ previous record of selling 5.03 million units during the Map of the Soul, 7 eras. Moreover, the first-week sales of FML exceeded the pre-orders for BTS’s 2019 album Map of the Soul: PERSONA by around 1 million copies.
BTS is facing a drop in rankings, with their brand points falling about 47% since December. This is because all the members are currently serving in the military. The oldest member, Jin, who was the first to enlist, is expected to return in June 2024, followed by J-Hope and Suga in order.
