A young girl from Chennai was hospitalised after allegedly consuming a sealed boba drink containing glass shards. The incident, which occurred on April 27 at the Frozen Bottle outlet in Thoraipakkam, has sparked outrage after the child’s mother, Jahnavi Sanghavi, shared the harrowing experience on LinkedIn.
Ms Sanghavi, an International History Educator, described how she purchased the boba drink assuming it was safe since it was sealed. Her daughter, believing one of the glass shards inside to be an ice cube, placed it in her mouth. Realising it was glass, the child immediately spat it out. She was then rushed to the hospital for medical evaluation.
In her post, Ms Sanghavi recounted that her daughter began vomiting the following day and had to be hospitalised once again. She reached out to Frozen Bottle and received a response from the brand’s Marketing Lead, Mr Vipul Chaudhary, who assured her that the company would take responsibility and compensate for medical expenses. Ms Sanghavi submitted all the necessary medical documentation promptly.
However, over 20 days later, she claims she has not received any follow-up from the company. “My calls and emails have been ignored,” she wrote, adding that the company’s subsequent response was particularly disturbing. According to her, when she emphasised the seriousness of the issue, a representative from Frozen Bottle allegedly replied, “We manufacture more than 2.5 crore bottles a month—one such case will not affect our brand.”
Describing the remark as “careless and irresponsible,” Ms Sanghavi criticised the company’s lack of accountability, especially when consumer safety is involved. She has since filed a formal complaint with the consumer court.
“This post is not just about my family—it is a wake-up call for all consumers and a plea for stricter quality control, corporate accountability, and ethical customer service in the food and beverage industry,” she wrote in her LinkedIn post, which has since gone viral.
Public support quickly poured in. Comments on her post expressed shock and disappointment at the company’s handling of the situation. One user wrote, “Frozen Bottle, it’s a shame that you are not being responsible in this case.” Another said, “I will avoid this brand and advise my contacts to do the same.” Others called the brand’s attitude “lenient” and warned that such conduct would erode consumer trust.
Ms Sanghavi has urged the public to boycott Frozen Bottle products until the company acknowledges the issue and takes concrete steps to ensure consumer safety. She also called upon the brand’s Founder, Pranshul Yadav, and CEO, Arunkumar Balasubramanian, to intervene and address the matter with the seriousness it deserves.
As of now, Frozen Bottle has not released a public statement regarding the incident.
