Google’s innovative Circle to Search feature, which first debuted on Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices in early 2024, is now making its way to the Nothing Phone series. This new addition is part of the Android 15 update, now rolling out to Nothing Phone (2), Phone (2a), and Phone (2a) Plus.
A Gradual Rollout with Tested Builds
Nothing has confirmed that Circle to Search was added after the three devices successfully “[passed] additional testing.” While the stable Android 15 update (Nothing OS 3.0) is live for Phone (2) and Phone (2a), the update for the Phone (2a) Plus remains in beta testing.
To use the feature, users must ensure they’re running the correct build:
- Phone (2): Build “Pong-V3.0-241207-0124
- Phone (2a): Build “Pacman-V3.0-241210-2057
- Phone (2a) Plus: Build “PacmanPro-V3.0-241126-1448
Users can check their build version by navigating to the Settings menu.
What is Circle to Search?
Circle to Search is a contextual search tool designed to enhance how users interact with content on their screens. With a simple circle, tap, or text highlight, users can instantly search for related information or perform actions on the selected content. Depending on the navigation mode—three-button navigation or gesture navigation—the feature can be accessed by long-pressing either the home button or the navigation bar.
This functionality simplifies tasks like searching for definitions, locating products, or performing contextual actions, making it a versatile addition for multitaskers and those who frequently interact with on-screen content.
What’s Next for Nothing Phones?
Nothing has indicated that more devices in its lineup will receive Circle to Search functionality in future updates. Specifically, the regional Japanese variant of the Phone (2a) is next in line, and hints suggest that even the Nothing Phone (1) could see support for the feature after it receives Nothing OS 3.0.
Android 15: What It Brings to Nothing Phones
The Android 15 update not only introduces Circle to Search but also brings numerous improvements to Nothing OS 3.0. Users can expect better system stability, enhanced app performance, and new UI refinements that align with Android 15’s sleek design philosophy.
Why Circle to Search Matters
This feature highlights Google’s focus on improving accessibility and usability across Android devices. By integrating tools like Circle to Search, manufacturers like Nothing are able to deliver a more intuitive user experience, bridging the gap between everyday interactions and advanced functionality.
With Circle to Search now on board, Nothing Phone (2) and (2a) users can look forward to a more seamless and efficient way of engaging with their device. As more Nothing phones receive this feature, it will become a staple of the brand’s ecosystem, adding yet another layer of functionality to its growing lineup.
