The coronavirus is spreading quickly, Karnataka’s health minister says masks are now a must for seniors and those with health issues. Corona cases are rising globally, especially due to the JN1 variant.
The Karnataka government issued a warning as the JN1 coronavirus variant, linked to the global increase in cases, was found in Kerala. Authorities are instructed to test symptomatic individuals and increase surveillance in border districts. Health Minister Dinesh Kundu Rao confirmed giving the necessary directions. As the virus spreads, Karnataka urges people over 60 and those with health issues to wear masks.
He mentioned that they are keeping an eye on the situation, assuring that things are under control, and there is no need for restrictions. The Karnataka government will provide guidelines accordingly. The minister reassured that there was no need to worry. He mentioned that they had discussed the spread of Corona in a meeting the previous day, where Dr. Ravi’s advisory committee provided the necessary guidelines. It was advised that people aged 60 and above and those with health issues like heart or kidney problems, cough, cold, and fever should wear masks.
The minister also stated that public awareness about this would be increased. We told hospitals to be ready. We’ll be extra careful in Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, and Chamarajanagar districts near Kerala. The government will decide what to do based on the situation.

“We said to inspect more and be watchful at the border. We have asked all those with symptoms to get tested. It will be known in two days whether the coronavirus is increasing in the state or not. If there is an increase in the number of coronavirus cases, we will take action accordingly. There is no need for restrictions now,” he said.
Usually in the month of Karthika, more devotees visit Sabarimala in Kerala. Responding to the question of whether any restrictions will be imposed on them, Dinesh Kundu Rao said, “Currently there are no restrictions on movement of people and assembly. Now we will not impose restrictions on the movement of people because no such situation has arisen.”
He stated that they would monitor the situation daily and take action if any information was received. Currently, they are making it mandatory for people aged 60 and above and those with co-morbidities to wear a mask when going out. Training exercises have been conducted in all hospitals, ensuring the availability of oxygen supplies, masks, test kits, and PPE kits in case of an emergency. All hospitals have been instructed to be on standby.
