Flower highlighted that Karthik is making a strong case for his spot on India’s T20 World Cup team. Karthik, who is playing his final season in the IPL, is the oldest active Indian cricketer. He debuted in 2004, three years before Rohit Sharma and four years before Virat Kohli joined the international cricket scene.
Karthik hasn’t played for India since the last T20 World Cup in Australia in October-November 2022. But his performance in IPL 2024 has caught the attention of fans and experts once again. Despite being 38 years old, he’s been in remarkable form this season, scoring 226 runs in 7 matches at a strike rate of 205.
In a crucial match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, RCB found themselves struggling at 122 for 5 in 10 overs while chasing a record 288-run target. However, Karthik stepped up and played an outstanding innings. He scored 83 runs off just 35 balls, hitting five fours and seven sixes. His brilliant performance helped RCB reach a total of 262/7.
