Glenn Maxwell regret missing The SRH Match: Glenn Maxwell, an all-rounder for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru team, chose to take a break from the current IPL season in 2024. He did this to rest and recharge both physically and mentally.
Maxwell acknowledged that missing the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad was not easy, as it was a significant match for him. However, he decided to focus on his well-being during this time.
Glenn Maxwell, an all-rounder for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, decided to take a break from the ongoing Indian Premier League to rest and recharge himself both physically and mentally. He admitted that missing the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad was unfortunate.
Maxwell, who has not been in top form this season, asked the team’s management to select his replacement for the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday.
RCB lost by 25 runs in a high-scoring match full of boundaries. Thanks to great performances from Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen, SRH set a new IPL record with a score of 287/3.
Maxwell, smiling, admitted that missing the game was unfortunate after witnessing the record-breaking performance.
“I noticed during the powerplay that the pitch was not as slow as in previous games. I realized it was probably a bad game to miss, and it would have been nice to be out there batting,” Maxwell said in the post-match press conference.
So far this season, Maxwell has only scored 32 runs in six innings, averaging 5.33 runs per game. This includes three instances where he got out without scoring any runs.
Maxwell discussed his discussions with skipper Faf du Plessis and the team management. He wants to regain a strong mental state so he can make a bigger impact on his team.
Maxwell said he decided to step back from playing easily. After the last game, he spoke with Faf du Plessis and the coaches and suggested trying someone else instead of him. He recognized that continuing to play might put him in a worse position, so he decided to take a mental and physical break to recover.
Maxwell explained that his strength has been batting after the powerplay, but he hasn’t been contributing positively with the bat. Given the team’s current position and the results they’ve been getting, he thought it was a good time to let someone else take the spot and show what they can do. He hopes someone can make the position their own and help the team.
Maxwell came into IPL 2024 in great form. Since November, he has scored 552 runs in 17 T20 games with an average of 42.46, including two centuries.
However, in six innings in the IPL, Maxwell struggled. He got out for a golden duck in the first match against CSK and faced more than five balls only once against Kolkata Knight Riders, scoring 28 runs in 19 deliveries before falling to Sunil Narine.
“T20 cricket can be unpredictable. In the first game, I hit one off the middle of the bat to the keeper. I judged the length well and saw a scoring chance, but the ball went straight to the keeper’s gloves. If it had gone wide, I could have scored a boundary and started the tournament on a high note,” Maxwell said.
“I just haven’t gotten going yet. In the first few games, I made decent decisions, but I kept finding ways to get out. In T20 cricket, this can happen, and it can lead to trying too hard and losing focus on the basics of the game,” he added.
