On October 28, Indian para-athletes made history by winning their 100th medal at the 4th Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China.
Dilip Mahadu Gavit won a gold medal in the Men’s 400m T47 race, and this brought India’s total medal count to 100. He finished the race in 49.48 seconds. This achievement makes it India’s most successful Para Asian Games so far, with a total of 26 gold medals, 29 silver medals, and 45 bronze medals.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to the para-athletes, emphasizing their dedication and talent, which serves as an inspiration to the nation. In a post on the social media platform X, he stated, “100 MEDALS at the Asian Para Games! A moment of unparalleled joy. This success is a result of the sheer talent, hard work, and determination of our athletes….They serve as a reminder that nothing is impossible for our youth.”

He also conveyed great pride and gratitude for the athletes, coaches, and the support system.
The total number of medals won now is higher than India’s past record of 72 medals at the 2018 Para Games in Jakarta. Back then, they had 15 gold medals, 24 silver medals, and 33 bronze medals.
On the last day of the games, besides Gavit’s gold medal, rowers Anita and Narayana Konganapalle won a silver medal in PR3 Mixed Doubles Sculls. The day before, Suyansh Narayan Jadhav won India’s first gold medal in swimming in the Men’s 50m Butterfly-S7 category, and Solairaj Dharmaraj set a new Asian and Games record in the Men’s Long Jump T64.
On the day before, India won a total of 17 medals. These included 7 gold medals, 6 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals.
