Kalabhavan Haneef, famous for his role in “Ee Parakkum Thalika,” passed away in Kochi at the age of 63.
Kalabhavan Haneef, a well-known Malayalam actor and mimicry artist, passed away at the age of 63 in Kochi on Thursday. He debuted in 1991 with “Cheppukilukkanna Chanagathi” and appeared in over 150 Malayalam films. Haneef had been receiving treatment for respiratory disease and was hospitalized for over a week in Ernakulam.
Haneef was in Jude Anthany Joseph’s movie “2018: Everyone Is a Hero,” which represented India at the Oscars this year. He became famous for his funny role as the groom in the 2001 comedy “Ee Parakkum Thalika.”
Kalabhavan is survived by his wife, Wahida, and children Sithara Haneef and Shahrukh Haneef. Originally from Mattancherry near Kochi, Haneef began his career in the entertainment industry through mimicry. He was part of Kalabhavan, a renowned performance group that played a significant role in promoting the art of mimicry in Kerala.
Like many others at Kalabhavan, Haneef began his film career with a funny role in his debut movie, “Cheppukilukkana Changathi.” Throughout his long career in the film industry, he acted in more than 300 movies, mostly in humorous roles. He also tried his hand at television serials and stage shows.
Superstar Mammootty and Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cheriyan shared their condolences for the actor’s passing. In a Facebook post, Minister Cheriyan praised Haneefa’s memorable roles, recognizing his spontaneous acting skills and dialogue delivery.
