The leader of wealthy Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, passed away on Saturday. He had been in power for three years and his age was 86. The reason for the Emir’s death has not been informed to the public. A statement was shared on Kuwaiti state television expressing sadness and sorrow. The statement announced the passing of Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Emir of the State of Kuwait.
In November, Sheikh Nawaf was admitted to the hospital due to an emergency health issue. His illness was not specified, but he later recovered and was declared in stable condition. Given his age, concerns about his health were common during his time in office.

Sheikh Nawaf Al-Sabah was born in 1937 and he was the fifth son of Sheikh Ahmad al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who ruled Kuwait from 1921 to 1950. He entered into politics at the age of 25, serving as the governor of Hawalli province until 1978, after which he spent a decade as the interior minister.
Sheikh Nawaf was appointed crown prince in 2006 by his half-brother Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. He assumed the role of emir when Sheikh Sabah passed away in September 2020 at the age of 91. During his term, he had to navigate the economy through a crisis caused by a decline in oil prices in 2020. The current crown prince, Sheikh Mishal al-Ahmad al-Sabah, another half-brother, is 83 years old.
