Merry Christmas OTT Release: Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif starred in the film “Merry Christmas,” which was released on December 12. The movie was written and directed by Shriram Raghavan, known for his expertise in thriller films. It was crafted as a story unfolding throughout one night.
Shriram Raghavan, originally from Tamil Nadu, had a long-standing desire to direct a Tamil film. Given the suitability of the story and protagonist, he decided to create “Merry Christmas” in both Hindi and Tamil languages. Instead of the conventional approach of shooting in one language and then dubbing it into another, he opted to shoot the film separately in both languages.
In the Hindi version of the film, actors like Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, and Tinnu Anand played key roles, while the Tamil version featured Radhika Sarathkumar and Shanmugarajan. This dual-language approach allowed for a more authentic and immersive experience for viewers in both regions.
Official Merry Christmas OTT Release Date Announcement
Vijay Sethupathi’s film “Merry Christmas” faced mixed reviews upon its release on 12 December in both Tamil and Hindi languages. Unfortunately, it did not resonate well with audiences and performed poorly at the box office. The Hindi version particularly struggled, earning only 18.30 crores in India, while the Tamil version also did not meet expectations.
Many fans who missed the opportunity to see the movie in theaters were eager for its release on OTT platforms. Now, there’s news about the OTT release details of “Merry Christmas.” The film is set to premiere on Netflix OTT on March 8, which is the Merry Christmas OTT release set to show on March 8, 2024.
Given director Sriram Raghavan’s global fanbase, there is hope that the film will find a larger audience through its OTT release. Fans worldwide are anticipating the opportunity to watch the film and see if it fares better in this format.
About Merry Christmas
Based on Frederic Dard’s Le Monte charge, the movie “Merry Christmas” does not have a complicated storyline. Instead, it flows smoothly and is easy to follow. While there are twists and turns as the story progresses, they are not too dramatic and lack that ‘wow’ factor. Unlike in “Andhadhun,” where each revelation grabs your attention, “Merry Christmas” does not quite have the same impact in that aspect.
Although it has its good moments, they don’t carry the thrilling intensity that director Sriram Raghavan is known for. I didn’t feel shocked or entertained. There were some surprises, but they didn’t leave me amazed. The climax is tense and lasts for about 30 minutes, but the ending, although experimental, could have been better in terms of both writing and storytelling. Nonetheless, it leaves you pondering, interpreting it in your way, and eager to discuss it with a friend later.
“Merry Christmas” tells the story of a fateful Christmas Eve night when Albert (played by Vijay Sethupathi) returns to Mumbai from Dubai, or so he claims, only to discover that his mother has passed away. While wandering the streets of Mumbai, he meets Maria (played by Katrina), who has been stood up by her date. They meet again in a theater, and their encounter leads Albert to Maria’s apartment, where he gets entangled in a crime scene. Despite having the opportunity to escape, Albert decides to stay and help Maria unravel the mystery.
The movie’s blend of romance and mystery sets the stage for various enjoyable moments. Notably, the dance sequence between Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina on Christmas Eve is well-executed and brings laughter with their dance moves. The film heavily relies on its lighting and background score to highlight crucial scenes and build tension.
I particularly appreciated the close-up shots of various props that play significant roles in the storyline, such as the mixer grinder, spectacles, origami, teddy bear, buttons in the lift, fists in the aquarium, and the bird in the cage. Alongside the main and supporting cast, these elements serve as important characters in the storytelling process.
