Indian cricket icon MS Dhoni recently shared a major update on his knee injury and return to the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). After leading CSK to victory in the 2023 IPL, Dhoni faced a troublesome knee issue that affected his batting. Following his fifth IPL title win, Dhoni underwent knee surgery and happily reported that his recovery is progressing well with no complications.
During an event in Bengaluru on October 26, the 42-year-old confirmed that medical experts have assured him he’ll be significantly better by November. He mentioned that his knee successfully withstood the surgery and he’s currently in the rehabilitation phase.
“My knee has survived the operation, and I’m going through rehab. The doctor told me I should feel much better by November, but there are no issues in my daily routine,” Dhoni shared.
In addition, Dhoni emphasized that his ultimate goal was never just to be remembered as a great cricketer. He consistently emphasized the importance of leaving a legacy as a good human being.
“From the beginning, I never aimed to be remembered solely as a great cricketer. I’ve always said I want to be remembered as a good human being. To achieve that, it’s a lifelong process,” Dhoni added.
Retired from international cricket, not IPL.

Dhoni had previously committed to returning to the IPL in 2024, putting an end to speculation about his future after leading CSK to their fifth IPL championship.
“In these circumstances, it’s the right time to announce my retirement. The easy thing for me would be to say thank you and retire. But considering the love I’ve received from CSK fans, it would be a gift to them to see me play one more season,” Dhoni had said after CSK’s victory over the Gujarat Titans in May at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
