Newegg Sells Out of NVIDIA RTX 50 Series GPUs in Minutes!

Newegg has confirmed that its entire stock of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs sold out in just 20 minutes, highlighting the massive demand for the new generation of graphics cards. The retailer also reported a huge surge in site traffic, with visits increasing by 8 to 10 times compared to usual levels. The RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 were at the center of the frenzy, dominating nine out of the top ten searches on the site and accounting for 18 of the 25 most visited pages.

Jim Tseng, Newegg’s VP of Product Management, acknowledged the overwhelming response in an official statement.

“The response to the NVIDIA RTX 50 Series has been extraordinary. The overwhelming demand reaffirms the gaming and PC community’s enthusiasm for the very best technology. For our customers who have not yet been able to secure a GPU, we’re committed to working with NVIDIA and our AIB (Add-In Board) partners to ensure future restocks and continued availability. Getting the latest cards into our customers’ hands is our passion, and we’re proud to also offer a GPU trade-in program that makes upgrading more affordable.”

While Newegg celebrates its record-breaking sales, many gamers and PC enthusiasts are frustrated by the extreme scarcity of the GPUs. Almost immediately after the stock ran out, resellers flooded online marketplaces like eBay with RTX 50 Series listings at outrageous prices. Some sellers are offering the RTX 5090 for over $6,000, which is more than double its official retail price.

This practice of scalping has become an increasing problem with every major GPU launch, leaving many gamers unable to buy the latest hardware at reasonable prices.

In response to the situation, an NVIDIA representative, posting under the username Tim@Nvidia, reassured fans on the company’s official forums.

“We expect significant demand for the GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 and believe stock-outs may happen. NVIDIA & our partners are shipping more stock to retail every day to help get GPUs into the hands of gamers.”

NVIDIA is working closely with retailers like Newegg to increase supply and mitigate scalper impact, but demand is expected to outpace supply for the foreseeable future.

Adding to the complexity, manufacturers like MSI have warned that global production constraints could make the RTX 50 Series even harder to find. The upcoming Chinese New Year is also expected to slow down manufacturing output, potentially leading to further delays in restocking.

For those who missed out on the initial wave, the best approach is to stay vigilant and monitor official retailer listings for restocks. Newegg, NVIDIA, and other major partners have hinted at more shipments arriving soon, though competition will remain fierce. Additionally, Newegg’s GPU trade-in program offers an alternative way for gamers to upgrade while reducing costs.

Despite the frustration, the excitement around the NVIDIA RTX 50 Series proves once again that the demand for high-performance gaming hardware is stronger than ever. Now, it’s just a waiting game for the next round of restocks.
