People passing by saw the girl, one of Khadiya Bee’s five children, looking upset. They quickly told the jail staff, who then let the girl meet her mother inside the facility.
The woman was put in jail on December 12 for theft. Since her arrest, her daughter and four siblings have been staying with relatives. After the meeting, jail officials got the address of the girl’s relatives and gave her over to them.
The superintendent of the district jail, Gani Naik, mentioned that Bhi has five children and lives in Vaddigiri, Kurnool City. Her husband left her for another woman, so she started working as a daily laborer. Khaja Bhi is known to have committed similar offenses before.
When asked if the nine-year-old girl could stay with her mother, Naik clarified that according to the rules, only children under six years old are allowed to live with their mothers in jail.
The chairperson of the Kurnool district child welfare committee, S Jubaida Begum, mentioned that they would visit Khaja Bhi’s house and meet her children to understand the situation. If necessary, they might move them to a childcare institute or let them stay with their relatives, depending on what’s best for them.
