90 Years Old Woman Completed Her Master’s Degree After 73 Years Of High School

A 90 years old woman Minnie Payne completed her master’s degree after 73 years of high school education. Hence, she became the oldest student to complete the degree. she has done it at the University of North Texas. She completed her high school in 1950. Some graduates visit the stage to receive their degrees. In UNT history, Minnie Payne is the oldest to get the degree at 90. Minnie’s achievement is inspiring for people of all ages.

She continued her academic journey at Texas Women’s University, taking three journalism classes and a business course at the UNT campus. Driven by her love for words and writing, Minnie expressed, “I had always worked with words, and I had always liked to write, so I almost immediately went back to school. I wanted to improve myself.”

90 years old completed her masters after 73 years

In 2006, Minnie Payne got her bachelor’s degree in general studies. This opened doors for her to work as a freelance writer for different Texas publications. But Minnie didn’t stop there. She wanted to improve her skills, so she moved to College Station to be closer to her family. Afterward, she returned to UNT. At first, Minnie aimed for a master’s in journalism. However, things changed when some of her online classes turned into in-person ones. She didn’t let this deter her. Instead, she shifted her focus to interdisciplinary studies, showing how adaptable and committed she is to her educational goals.

Billy Roessler, from UNT’s Toulouse Graduate School, guided Minnie on her journey. He praised her determination, saying, “We use the term ‘lifelong learner,’ but Minnie truly exhibits this. Her persistence to complete her degree at age 90 is impressive. She had a purpose in completing this degree. “Even though Minnie reached an amazing milestone, she sees her education as an ongoing adventure. In her words, “In some way or another, I want to continue learning”. Minnie Payne’s story goes beyond age and shows how powerful education is. Her strong commitment, along with support from the UNT community, proves that it’s never too late to follow your passion.
