Javeria Khan, who is from Karachi, Pakistan, crossed the Attari-Wagah Border to marry her partner Sameer Khan from Kolkata, India, in a story of love that spans borders. On Tuesday, Javeria Khanum traveled from Pakistan and crossed the Attari-Wagah border in Amritsar to be with her fiancé Sameer Khan in Kolkata.
Javeria and Sameer first met five years ago when he returned to Kolkata from Germany and saw Javeria’s picture on his mom’s phone. Sameer fell in love at first sight and expressed his wish to marry her. Their families agreed, but their love story faced a lot of challenges.
Javeria had to apply for a visa to travel to India. Unfortunately, her application was rejected twice by the Indian High Commission, and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 added further delays.
Undeterred, Javeria applied again, and finally, her visa was approved. She crossed the international border between India and Pakistan at the Attari-Wagah crossing in Amritsar on Tuesday. Sameer welcomed her with a bouquet and beats of ‘dhol’ at the border. They are planning to get married in January.
Sameer expressed his joy at the reunion and thanked both governments for their help in the visa process. He suggested the introduction of a special visa category for couples who want to get married, respecting security concerns but making it easier for such cases.
Javeria expressed her gratitude to the Indian government for granting her a 45-day visa. She expressed her happiness, stating that their families had agreed to the marriage. However, they were working on obtaining a visa. She thanked the government of India for granting her a 45-day visa. She mentioned being in a relationship for the past five years and shared that she had been trying to secure a visa for a long time, and finally, it had happened.
Sameer mentioned that friends from various countries might attend their wedding, and he emphasized the importance of love overcoming borders.
