Hisar, Haryana – May 22, 2025: Jyoti Malhotra, a 33-year-old travel vlogger from Hisar, Haryana, known for her YouTube channel “Travel with JO,” has been arrested on charges of espionage. Authorities allege that she maintained contact with Pakistani intelligence operatives and shared sensitive information. However, police have clarified that there is no evidence linking her to terrorist organizations or activities.
Alleged Espionage Activities
Malhotra reportedly established contact with Ehsan-ur-Rahim, alias Danish, a Pakistani official at the High Commission in New Delhi, in 2023. Investigations suggest that Danish was developing her as an intelligence asset. She is accused of sharing details about India’s internal operations, including information related to communication blackouts during ‘Operation Sindoor’
Authorities have seized multiple electronic devices from Malhotra, including three mobile phones and a laptop, which are currently undergoing forensic analysis. Additionally, her financial transactions are under scrutiny to uncover any links to espionage activities.
No Links to Terrorism
Despite the serious allegations, Hisar Superintendent of Police Shashank Kumar Sawan stated that there is no evidence connecting Malhotra to any terrorist groups or activities. He emphasized that while she knowingly communicated with Pakistani intelligence operatives, there is no proof that she had access to military or defense-related information .
Malhotra’s arrest is part of a larger investigation into a suspected espionage network operating in northern India. Authorities have arrested 11 individuals across Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh in connection with this case. The investigation has also revealed that Pakistani intelligence operatives were attempting to recruit Indian social media influencers to disseminate propaganda and gather sensitive information .
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to uncover the full extent of the espionage network and any potential threats to national security.
