Chennai, May 21, 2025 — Actor Ravi Mohan and his estranged wife Aarti Ravi appeared before the Chennai Family Court on Tuesday as their highly publicized divorce case took another turn. In a fresh petition, Aarti demanded ₹40 lakh per month as alimony, while Ravi reiterated his claim that the couple is already legally separated.
Both parties submitted individual petitions, with Ravi urging the court to dismiss Aarti’s plea for cohabitation, asserting that their marriage is beyond reconciliation. The court advised both sides to reconsider their positions and adjourned the matter to June 12.
The couple had earlier attended court-mandated reconciliation sessions, which followed Ravi’s initial divorce petition. Despite those efforts, the dispute has only grown more intense.
Aarti Blames a ‘Third Person’ for Marital Breakdown
Just a day before the hearing, Aarti Ravi released a pointed public statement, accusing Ravi’s alleged girlfriend, Kenishaa Francis, of being the reason behind the collapse of their marriage.
“There is a third person in our marriage. What broke us wasn’t something between us — it was someone outside,” Aarti wrote. “The ‘light of your life’ brought only darkness into ours. I have proof.”
She described Francis as a “homebreaker” and claimed her involvement began long before any divorce papers were filed.
Ravi’s Response and Public Announcement The couple’s strained relationship became public last year when Ravi, formerly known as Jayam Ravi, announced his decision to separate from Aarti. He emphasized that the decision was not made hastily:
“After much thought, reflection, and discussions, I have taken the difficult decision to proceed with the dissolution of marriage with Aarti,” he stated. “This was not a decision taken in haste.” Aarti later claimed the announcement had been made without her knowledge or consent, adding fuel to the already growing controversy.
A High-Profile Family Feud Ravi Mohan, the son of veteran film editor A. Mohan, is known for his roles in several successful Tamil films such as Jayam, Daas, Peranmai, Bommarillu, Romeo Juliet, Bhoomi, and Siren. He made headlines last year by dropping his stage name ‘Jayam Ravi’ and reverting to his original name.
Aarti Ravi is the daughter of renowned TV producer Sujatha Vijayakumar. The couple, married for over a decade, are parents to two sons, Aarav and Ayaan. The court is expected to address Aarti’s alimony request and Ravi’s petition to finalize the divorce during the next hearing on June 12.
