Samsung Galaxy S26 to Feature New Main Camera Sensor After Three-Year Gap: Reports

Just months after the launch of the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung is reportedly gearing up for its next flagship — the Samsung Galaxy S26 — with a significant upgrade in the camera department. According to new leaks, the Galaxy S26 will debut a new ISOCELL GN series sensor for its main camera, marking the first major change in three years.

While the 50MP resolution is expected to remain unchanged, Samsung is tipped to move away from the ISOCELL GN3 sensor, which has been in use since the Galaxy S23 and continues to power the current Galaxy S25 models. The newer GN series sensor is likely to feature larger pixels, which could result in enhanced low-light photography and improved overall imaging performance.

The update comes amid ongoing discussions in the tech community about Samsung’s camera strategy, particularly after rumours of a 200MP telephoto lens surfaced earlier this year. If both reports hold true, the Galaxy S26 could see one of the most significant generational camera leaps for Samsung’s flagship lineup.

Additionally, reports suggest a structural shake-up in the series. The Galaxy S26 Plus is expected to be discontinued and replaced by a new Galaxy S26 Edge variant. This move mirrors Apple’s approach with the upcoming iPhone 17 Air, which replaces the iPhone 17 Plus.

The Galaxy S26 series is also expected to be powered by either the Exynos 2600 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Elite 2 processor, depending on the region. These chips are likely to bring further AI integration and performance optimizations, continuing the trend set by the Galaxy S25 series.

Though the official launch of the S26 series is still several months away, these early leaks and hardware rumours offer a promising glimpse into what Samsung may deliver in its next-generation flagship. If confirmed, the camera overhaul could position the Galaxy S26 as a serious contender in the premium smartphone photography space for 2026.
