Spynote is a newly discovered malware that can cause various threats to Android Users as it can hide itself and is designed to steal user’s bank information and sensitive data. Internet security firm F-Secure has been tracking the activities of this malware, and their researcher, Amit Tambe, has shed light on its distribution methods and potential risks.SpyNote appears to spread through a method known as ‘Smishing‘, a fusion of SMS and phishing which involves sending infected SMS (Short Message Service) messages. When users receive these messages, they are encouraged to download specific apps by following the provided links. This process appears to circumvent Google Play’s security measures.
How does Spynote conceal itself on Android?
Spynote is different from other malicious threats as it can hide well on a user’s device. Once installed on an Android device, spyware goes to great lengths to conceal its existence. How Spyware steals user’s information?
This malware steals the user data and call records and the files are stored in .wav file format and sent to the attacker. Also, steal jpg and jpeg files and bank passwords as well. The Trojan’s attack rates have risen since the release of its source code in October 2022. Hence, it’s strongly recommended to maintain preventive measures against this malware and refrain from clicking on unfamiliar links received through SMS and other sources.
