Steps to Update Your FASTag KYC: Starting January 31, the government-owned National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will deactivate or blacklist FASTags that don’t have complete Know Your Customer (KYC) information, even if they still have money in it. NHAI is doing this to make sure the toll collection system in India works better and is more secure.
A quick heads-up for those planning to use their vehicles on highways: If you haven’t completed the Know Your Customer (KYC) process for the FASTag on your car’s windshield, it’s going to be turned off, even if there’s still money in it. The deadline to get this done is January 31, just a week away. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) shared this info and suggested completing the KYC for your FASTag to avoid any issues. What is FASTag?
We can see that digital transformation is happening everywhere. Nowadays we can see that everything is digitized. Starting from paying EB bills to recharges, we are doing it online. With the help of this digital transformation, our huge work also decreased on those things. Remember standing in a long queue to pay a single bill? It’s hard right..Hence to make your job easier, this advancement is taken from your home to the roads. The FASTag technology was implemented to make cashless transactions across the national highways across the country at approximately 615 toll plazas.
Using this technology, the toll fee is collected through FASTag. also, they have made it mandatory for all the vehicles from 16th Feb 2021 onwards. If anybody is without FASTag then they have to pay double the amount.
Technology used in FASTag
To automate the toll collection in India, it is developed. FASTag is a tag fitted on vehicles that can be operated directly by 23 banks of NPCI(National Payment Corporation of India) and NHAI (National Highway Authority of India). It runs by Radio Frequency Identification(RFID) technology. It ensures that no humans will be involved in toll fee collection.
How FASTag Works?
FASTag is like a tag stuck on your car’s windshield and connected to a prepaid account. When you go through a toll gate, it automatically pays the toll using a special technology called RFID. This means you can drive through without stopping at the toll booth. The money for the toll is taken from your prepaid FASTag account, making payments simple and quick.
