Suriya Convinced Jyothika: In a recent interview, director Tushar Hiranandani shared how Suriya persuaded Jyothika to come back to Hindi cinema with Srikanth.
Jyothika had already made her return to Hindi films with the movie Shaitaan, starring Ajay Devgn and Madhavan. However, even before agreeing to that project, she said yes to Tushar Hiranandani’s Srikanth: Aa Raha Hai Sabki Aankhein Kholne, which stars Rajkummar Rao. During one interview, Tushar acknowledged Suriya’s role in convincing Jyothika to take on the role.
Director Tushar, a big fan of Jyothika, asked her to play Srikanth Bolla’s teacher in the film. But she said no at first. He admired her acting in many Tamil films. “She said she couldn’t do it,” Tushar explained. However, the very next day, she changed her mind. She called Tushar and said Suriya read the script and thought she should do it. They both came to Tushar’s house, and Jyothika officially agreed to do the film.
Tushar also mentioned that Jyothika agreed to do Srikanth before saying yes to Shaitaan. “She had not been doing Hindi films for a while, and ours was the first film she accepted. She later shot for Shaitaan,” he said. Mukesh Chhabra asked Tushar to convince Jyothika to join Shaitaan. Tushar called her and said, “Please do it, it’s Vikas sir’s film.”
Jyothika made her Hindi debut in 1998 with the movie Doli Saja Ke Rakhna, where she acted alongside Akshaye Khanna. After that, she mostly worked in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam films for the majority of her career.
After her return to Hindi cinema with Shaitaan, Jyothika will soon appear in Srikanth, set to release on May 10. The movie also features Sharad Kelkar and Alaya F in the main roles. Additionally, Jyothika has filmed for the Netflix web series Dabba Cartel, which has not been released yet.
