Suvendu Adhikari blames Mamata Banerjee: Four people were injured when a Ram Navami procession was attacked in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal. West Bengal’s opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari blamed Mamata Banerjee on Thursday for the clashes during Wednesday’s Ram Navami processions in Murshidabad.
“The Ram Navami processions were disrupted and attacked in several places across West Bengal because of the chief minister’s provocative speech. This speech encouraged troublemakers who believed the law enforcement agency wouldn’t act against them. They thought their actions were protected because of the chief minister’s public comments about Ram Navami, which she referred to as ‘a day for rioting,'” the BJP leader posted on X.

Suvendu’s comment is about a controversial statement made by Banerjee at a rally in Bengal. PTI quoted the TMC chief as saying, “If you see them (BJP) shouting slogans on April 17, it is their day of riot.”
“I have sent a letter to the Honorable Governor, Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose, informing him about the attacks on the Ram Navami processions on April 17, 2024. I asked him to intervene immediately to help control the worsening law and order situation. I also requested an investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA),” said Adhikari, who used to be close to Banerjee but joined the BJP in 2020.
“I want to ask ‘ECISVEEP’ to take action against the Chief Minister because her words provoked these incidents,” he added. At least four people were injured in an alleged attack on a Ram Navami procession in Murshidabad district.
A police official said the Shaktipur Ram Navami Utsav Ujjapan Committee held a procession. It was attacked as it passed by Shaktipur High School in Murshidabad. Stones were allegedly thrown from rooftops during the attack.
The BJP has blamed the TMC for the clashes in Murshidabad. “Bengal is in trouble, and Mamata Banerjee is to blame. Her harsh and divisive speeches have led to attacks on Ram devotees throughout Bengal. After riots in Murshidabad, now Ram devotees are being targeted in Egra, Medinipur,” said BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya in a post on X.
