Trisha Krishnan Responds to Age Gap Criticism in Thug Life: It Was Pure Magic

Actor Trisha Krishnan has gracefully addressed the criticism surrounding her on-screen pairing with Kamal Haasan in Mani Ratnam’s much-anticipated film Thug Life, which is slated for theatrical release on June 5. The conversation around the 28-year age gap between the two stars has sparked debate online, but Trisha remains unfazed, focusing instead on the creative brilliance behind the film.

Speaking at a pre-release event in Mumbai, Trisha shared her perspective on the casting. “I think that’s something I knew when they announced the film, and I had not even signed it. So that’s when I knew—Wow, this is magic,” she said. “I was just watching Mani sir and Kamal sir work together. All of us as actors were like, ‘Oh damn, we have to do some work here. We’ve got to stop staring at them.’ It was pure magic.”

Directed by veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam, Thug Life marks a monumental collaboration featuring a star-studded cast including Kamal Haasan, Trisha Krishnan, Silambarasan TR, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Abhirami, Joju George, Nasser, and Mahesh Manjrekar.

In a separate interview with India Today, Trisha described Haasan as a mentor in her film journey. “I’ve known Simbu and Kamal sir for years now. Working with them felt natural. Kamal sir has been a mentor to me, and I grew up watching Mani sir’s films. Walking onto that set felt safe—it felt like home,” she said.

Despite the actors’ positive outlook, some viewers have taken issue with the age difference, especially after the release of the song ‘Sugar Baby’, which shows Trisha and Haasan in a romantic setting. The track, while garnering attention, also drew backlash for its title and visuals.

Still, the buzz around Thug Life remains strong, with fans excited to witness the reunion of Haasan and Ratnam after decades. As the countdown to the release begins, both the cast and audience seem ready to embrace the cinematic experience without letting age become the headline.
