A 27-year-old woman from the US named Dreka Martinis has a habit of eating 1 bottle of Jonhnson’s baby powder daily. She said this fondness of habit was raised after her post-bath routine for her babies. A decade ago she started to eat the powder, now it has become an addiction to her. For the year 2023, Dreka Martin who is living in Louisiana spent around $4000 buying the powder especially because she loves the taste of Johnson’s Aloe and Vitamin E. In Indian Rupee, it will be around Rs. 3.33 lakhs.
Despite the warning indicated in the pack of Johnson’s baby powder manufacturer that the product is not intended to be consumed, she is eating it regularly. She also said that the melting of baby powder in her mouth makes it regular for her despite the indications mentioned. Also, she avoided consuming it during her pregnancies. Many of her friends and family members have shown concerns about her to avoid this habit. Martin also said that her kids developed the same habit after seeing her consumption of bath powder. Martin also said that she is having pica. Pica is related to an eating disorder that makes people eat non-food items like sand, slate pencils, and chalk-like substances.
Martin said that she loves eating baby powder. Its taste is almost like how it smells. I will be happy when I eat it. I won’t take care of real food. Baby powder is enough. Even I have tried hiding it from my mother for a month. We will have one bottle for two months for babies. My mom knows that and she asks me what is wrong and why the bottles have been emptied too fast. I tried hiding it but I can’t speak when my mouth is full of powder. I sometimes worry that all my friends and family judge me because of this habit. Even at traveling, I will travel with three bottles in my bag because, in other countries, I may not be able to get the same brand she said.
