During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Abu Dhabi in 2015, Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed AI Nahyan generously donated 13.5 acres of land for the construction of a temple. Additionally, in 2019, the government of the United Arab
Emirates contributed another 13.5 acres of land. Following this, Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Swaminarayan temple, which was built on a total of 27 acres of land. The temple is constructed using pink Rajasthani sandstone and white Italian marble. To build it, about 7,00,000 bricks were transported from Rajasthan to Abu Dhabi.

Temple Construction

The temple complex consists of seven towers, each representing iconic buildings of Abu Dhabi. Inside the complex, there are facilities such as a visitor center, prayer halls, gardens, and learning areas. To ensure the temple’s safety, 300 sensors have been installed beneath it to detect earthquakes and extreme heat. Additionally, an artificial river has been created using water from the Ganges.

In response to the intense sunlight, the temple has been fitted with nano tiles to keep it cool. Most of the materials used in building the temple are non-ferrous to prevent corrosion. Inside the temple, visitors can find depictions of stories from various civilizations, including Indian epics like the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, as well as tales from Mayan, Aztec, Egyptian, Arab, European, Chinese, and African cultures. The construction of this temple cost approximately Rs. 700 crores.
