Do You Know Why Congress is Boycotting Ram Temple Opening?

The Congress party has announced that it will boycott the opening ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya on the 22nd of January. The party has issued an official announcement stating that it will not participate in the special festival programs for the Ram Temple scheduled to be held on the 22nd in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to install the Ram idol in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, various celebrities, including clergymen, Hindu religious leaders, businessmen, and actors, have been invited to participate in the ceremony.

In this case, the Congress party has extended invitations to former President Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and the party’s Lok Sabha Committee Chairman Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, among others, to participate in the event. However, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has officially announced that leaders from the Congress side will not participate.

In his statement regarding this, Jairam Ramesh has said that crores of people worship Lord Ram in the country, and religion is a personal matter for the people. However, he has accused the BJP of creating a political project called the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Ramesh also mentioned that, with the upcoming parliamentary elections, the BJP is hastily opening the incomplete temple for electoral gains.

He also said that the BJP and RSS are playing politics in front of the Ayodhya temple, so they decided not to take part in the opening ceremony of the Ram temple. He also mentioned that the Congress party didn’t agree with the Supreme Court’s decision on the case about building the Ram temple.

The Congress party seems divided on whether to attend the Ram temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya on January 22. Some top leaders have declined the invitation, but others within the party have decided to attend.

A group of senior leaders believes that the party’s decision to boycott the ceremony allows the BJP to criticize the Congress. The BJP has seized on this, claiming that the Congress is against Indian culture and Hindu religion.

The Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury declined the invitation, accusing the BJP of turning the event into a political project for electoral gains. However, some within the Congress, like Arjun Modhwadia from Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh PWD minister Vikramaditya Singh, disagree with the party’s decision. Singh sees the consecration ceremony as a chance to be part of history.

The BJP spokesperson, Sudhanshu Trivedi, criticized the Congress for opposing the ceremony, suggesting it stems from jealousy towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He claimed that Congress tends to create obstacles during historic moments for the country.

Trivedi emphasized the significance of the Ram temple in Ayodhya to Indian traditions and culture, accusing the Congress of prioritizing extremist politics. He rejected the Congress’s claim that the BJP and RSS had taken over the event, stating that the temple shouldn’t be linked to any organization or ideology.

Trivedi also questioned whether the Congress still supports rebuilding the mosque demolished in Ayodhya in 1992. He highlighted historical instances where Congress leaders opposed events like the rebuilding of the Somnath temple and mentioned controversial statements about Lord Ram during Sonia Gandhi’s presidency.

In conclusion, Trivedi stated that the temple represents 500 years of struggle and national pride.
