Manish Malhotra Designs New Uniforms for Air India’s Cabin Crew: From Sari Pantsuits to Bandhgalas

Today, Air India introduced new uniforms for its pilots and crew members. The new uniform, set to debut by year-end, is a tribute to Air India’s history and a commitment to a bright future, as mentioned on X.

Air India on X page, “Introducing our new Pilot & Cabin crew uniforms, an ode to Air India’s rich history and a promise of a bright future. These uniforms, envisioned by India’s leading couturier Manish Malhotra, features three quintessential Indian colours – red, aubergine and gold, representing the confident, vibrant new India.”

Air India hired fashion designer Manish Malhotra to create new uniforms for its 10,000+ flight crew, ground staff, and security personnel. This is the first change in six decades since the airline’s founding in 1932, coinciding with the merger of Vistara into Air India. The colors chosen, red, aubergine, and gold, symbolizing a confident and vibrant new India. Additionally, the cockpit crew wears a timeless black double-breasted suit with a Vista-inspired print, reflecting professionalism. The uniforms aim to blend India’s rich cultural traditions with a modern aesthetic. Malhotra hopes the designs instill pride in the crew and leave a lasting impression on guests, embodying India’s renowned warmth and hospitality.
