Board Exams Twice A Year: Starting in 2025-26, Students Can Choose To Take Their 10th And 12th Board Exams Twice A Year – Minister

Board Exams Twice A Year: Starting from the academic session of 2025-26, students will have the opportunity to take their 10th and 12th class board exams twice, as announced by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday. This means that they can choose to sit for these exams two times a year. Pradhan mentioned that this initiative is in line with the goals set out in the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020 and is aimed at reducing the pressure on students.

The decision to allow students to take their board exams biannually comes as part of efforts to address academic stress among students. By providing them with the option to appear for these exams twice a year, it is hoped that students will feel less burdened and have more opportunities to excel academically. This move is per the broader objectives outlined in NEP, which emphasizes holistic and flexible approaches to education.

Furthermore, the introduction of biannual board exams reflects a commitment to adaptability and innovation in the education system. It recognizes the diverse needs and capabilities of students, allowing them to choose a schedule that best suits their learning styles and preferences. This change signifies a progressive step towards creating a more supportive and inclusive educational environment for students across the country.

He emphasized that the NEP 2020 aims to introduce biannual board exams to offer students more chances to succeed academically. This means that students will have the opportunity to take their board exams twice a year, providing them with ample opportunities to showcase their abilities.

The Ministry of Education announced the New Curriculum Framework (NCF) in August of last year. According to this framework, board exams will be conducted at least two times annually. The intention behind this decision is to ensure that students have sufficient time and opportunities to perform well in their exams. Additionally, students will have the option to retain their best score, which means they can choose the higher score from either attempt.

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the education system and alleviate the pressure on students. By offering multiple exam opportunities and the flexibility to retain the best score, the education system aims to create a more supportive and conducive environment for students to thrive academically. This aligns with the overarching goals of the NEP 2020, which seeks to promote holistic development and cater to the diverse needs of students.

During an event at the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium in Raipur, Pradhan spoke with students to understand their thoughts on the new exam format. He encouraged them to strive for their best performance in both exam sessions.

He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision outlined in the NEP. This vision aims to ensure students are not burdened with stress, receive high-quality education, stay connected with their culture, and are prepared for the future. According to Pradhan, following this approach will contribute to India becoming a developed country by 2047.

Pradhan was speaking at the launch of the PM SHRI (Prime Minister Schools for Rising India) scheme in Chhattisgarh. He mentioned that in the first phase of the scheme, 211 schools in the state will be improved using a ‘hub and spoke’ model, with each school receiving ₹2 crore for upgrades.

Pradhan emphasized the importance of education in Indian languages, which is a key aspect of the National Education Policy 2020. He expressed his hope that the Government of Chhattisgarh will fully implement all aspects of #NEP2020, including Kindergarten, in the upcoming academic session.
